The article will then turn to the various secular criminal laws that address same-sex and transgender activities in some states. As well, the paper will describe the relevant Islamic Sharia religiously based laws which apply to Muslims in parts of the region. The paper will continue with a discussion of anti-discrimination laws, legal recognition of same sex relationships, transsexual rights and issues affecting intersex individuals.
